Thank you for another great event! Together, we raised $6,946 to help families in Kalamazoo with heating system repairs.
Where do you turn when things go wrong?
Many of our neighbors face a desperate situation when things go wrong with their homes. Relatively minor needs, left unattended for lack of resources or skills, deteriorate into major issues. A $75 plumbing repair can quickly become several thousand dollars in structural damage, sinking a low-income homeowner’s financial stability and straining our limited community resources. Beyond the obvious visual effects on homes, these conditions deteriorate the pride, independence, and health of our neighbors.Community Homeworks can help!
Community Homeworks offers a range of free workshops to train homeowners in regular home maintenance and basic repairs. In addition to these measures toward homeowner self-sufficiency, there are times when direct assistance is urgently needed. To address these needs, Community Homeworks provides emergency and critical home repairs and rehabilitation to low-income homeowners, covering health and safety risks, removal of blight, and prevention of property deterioration. The cost to homeowners is typically only 10% of the total cost of the repair, with the remaining expense covered by grants and private donations.By providing affordable emergency repairs, the skill sets for self-sufficiency, and case management for more elaborate housing needs, Community Homeworks is helping our neighbors remain in their homes, with stability, safety, and dignity.
